Am I missing something????

I have been studying for about a month and read the recommended books, I also took a one week intense boot camp. All in all I figure I am in good shape. I perform all the test exams in each of the books and on the course and do quite well, 75%-85% consistantly.

I then started taking some of the online exams and my scores were quite different. Much lower in fact. The part I seem to be struggling with are the situational questions where logic tells me one thing and the PMI says another. Case in point:

PMP Question:

Your project is executed with a globally spread virtual team. The project progress has been found to be too slow. Which measure is most likely to immediately speed up the project?

a Technical training for all team members

b Daily phone conferences and detailed reporting

c A team meeting at a location convenient to all team members

d Collocation of team members at a suitable place - *Correct Answer

Now reading the work immediately one would assume "quick". So my thinking was collocation would take time to perform , performing daily phone conferencing would yield immediate results, you would then follow up with collocation.

The correct answer was C...Am I alone in my thinking here??? Its these sort of questions I am being killed on.

Any help would be much appreciated.

In terms of my studying:

2-3 hours each night, 10 on weekends. Read Rita;s book, PMBOK on second reading. I have been studying for about a good month. I am an experienced PM 15 years which I think is part of my problem. Where I work we have a PMSO, I creat charters, PM Plans, I have experience in procurement... the full gammet.

Going by your preparation i believe you just need polishing ..you probably just need to focus on Rita End of chapter questions and its fast track software so as to get better exposure of scenario based questions

Also when are you planing to go for the exam , if you have time go for one more reading of rita ..it will really help and choose different flavours of mock exams hav u tried oliver , pmstudy and pmpforsure

Thanks for the reply. I have been doing all of those mock exams. I even have Rita's PM Exam software. It's very tough!!!!! I think I suffered a bit of brain-overload to be honest. I Ithink a more paced studying method will be what I need. I found Rita's book good but a bit long in some places. From my reading of others I think I will focus on the PMBOK and sections of Kim Heldman's book..

I take the exam May 2nd which gives me sufficient time to polish up. I think I am still struggling thinking from a pure PMI perspective.

when the question is talking about VIRTUAL TEAM (it has indicated the it's GLOBALLY spread) the the main focus is on the communication.

the right answer may mean that all team members can meet online,  through a video confernce which is the an interactive communication; the most effective communication amongst all the three types (interactive, push and pull)).

Can you pls clarify? In the question itself, you have indicated 'D' as the correct answer, but a few lines below you say that the correct answer is 'C'. Which one is it?

Please let us know from your source so that we call all get the understanding correct.

Thanks!

I would be a rookie compared to your 15 years of PM experience..

Nevertheless, to pass the exam, I would advice you to forget everything , and ask yourself  in each scenario.. "Is this what Rita would do?"

Answer is D because, this is the only correct (PMBOK) way to align or orient all team members. Either in a virtual room. Key is Face to Face.
