Hi Somav,

What does the word "Integration" mean especially as in PM terminology?

Think about it or refer to www.dictionary.com and you may have the answer. What exactly do you mean by integration?

Find this out first and still if you can not get it, SS (Saket Sir) is always there to bail you out? He, afterall, does integration or helping needy people like me at key interface points. However, I would always prefer to use my own brain first and am sure you are not a fool like me that you can not get an answer. Unlike me, who more often than not, gets none :(

If you take a look at the Project Integration Management knowledge area you will see that it is part of all process groups. Hence straightaway you can tell that option A and B cannot be correct answer.

Now the only choices we have is C and D. If you take a look at D it is saying that Integration is part of all processes. There are 42 processes and integration is not part of all of them hence this is incorrect too. For e.g. Collect Requirements process is a part of Project Scope Management and not integration. So there are several such processes in which integration is not done.

So the correct answer is C.

This one is really interesting as it does not need any PM knowledge rather just common sense. Let’s see another similar question.

Q) When do you visit a doctor?
A) When you have breathing problem
B) When you have headache
C) Anytime, when you feel you are not well
D) When you are wounded

All choices are right, isn’t it? But choice C covers all. Out of the given choice, choice C is best and would always be true.

Come to the original question now. Choice A, B, D only talks about some project specific phases, while choice C talks about all important project phases. Why not choose C then? By choosing C, you are being assured that integration should be performed in all important project phases.
