I wanted to get this certificate about a year ago & I got 35 PDU’s required by PMI through Astrowix Corporation, Hyderabad, India in Feb 2010. I have to thank Ms. Rajani Boyapati for her vast knowledge in PMBOK & clearly interacting with us while taking through the processes in 4 day training course.
I registered myself as a member of PMI, scheduled exam for July 27 & was not comfortable facing the PMP exam. So, I postponed to August 5 and successfully achieved it.
I don’t want to put how many hours of study I made or practice tests that I went through & their respective scores as it all depends on individual potential. I simply want to tell you this, learn the PMBOK style of managing a project. You won’t get a lot on your first go through on PMBOK but keep reading until you understand what the book was written for and it will start to make sense.
Books referred – Head First, Rita Mulcahy, & PMBOK (All latest editions)
Practice Tests – Lot of them, whatever available online/offline. Any wrong answered question I made sure why that question was mistaken by me. That helped me a lot to understand the question & I would know the answer upfront without looking at the choices. Best trick by Rita Mulcahy was to read the choices from bottom (D to A) and it worked for me.
I couldn’t sleep until 3AM before the exam with my nervousness and got exam centre by 8:15 and started exam by 8:25AM prior to originally scheduled time of 9AM. Took a break after 70th question & finished exam when there was about 20 minutes left on the clock. Once again I have to thank all the persons who shared their experiences during the exam time, the screen went white and I kept my “Patience” and after the survey got the “Congrats” screen. I’m “immensely” happy getting it & being member of PMI community. I called my wife & shared the news. I have to specially thank my two kids & spouse for their excellent support while I was preparing for this exam.
Lastly, don’t under estimate “Professional & Social Responsibility” area; I scored “below” and was very confident that I would be “proficient” in this area. Dah…
Congratulations Sreenivas on

Hi Richa,
Book a slot & prepare and if you are not ready yet – you can always reschedule 48 hours prior to actual exam date/time.
Good luck.
