Change Request Question

Hi

1. Who approves the changes in the project? as I understood it is CCB and sponsor or higher authority is the part of CCB.
Doubt 1: Whether Project Manager also part of CCB. Yes, then how can he approve request raise by him or his team
Doubt 2: Is it this way that if he raise change request then Higher management will approve/reject, if his team member raise then he can approve/reject?

2. What is the right flow of raising change?

My understanding is

Changes are generally approved by CCB and sponser.

In certain emergency situations the project manger has authority to approve changes and later go through the formal process.

As per my understanding, if changes are not affecting the baselines, then the project manager is authorised to approve the changes.  But if baseline is getting affected due to proposed changes, then CCB's  approval is required.

The change request process is very objective once set in motion. In simple terms - the CCB, Project Management Team and/or sponsor are generally the parties involved in regards to change approval. Generally, prior distinction is made to the level of change hence determining who actually approves/rejects. The Project Manager is certain instances is also given the authority to approve/reject.

CCB has to approved the change request either it is raised by the sponcer or project manager and his team.

Project manager and his team only analyz  the impact occurs through that change and gives that report to change control.

No, not always. The CCB is elected to approve changes when necessary. Please read pages 93-95 of the PMBOK for substantiation on my opinion. Good Luck Fezi!
