The journey
===========
Stared preparations on 15th Sep 2010.
From 15th Sep to 2nd Oct finished one round of reading Rita's PMP Exam Prep. Could not understand too much of PMBOK. So kept it aside. Also solved the exercises in Rita's book. Paid attention to the reasoning provided for each incorrectanswer.
Had targeted getting certified by Nov end - mid Dec
However unfortunately my application got selected for audit and this delayed my plan
Once I got my exam scheduled, purchased Kim Heldman's book and went thru' the initial chapters.
By this time I became comfortable with most of the concepts and got the confidence to go thru PMBOK.
In parallel memorized Tools and Tech and Outputs. A few days before the exam went thru' Inputs.
Understanding ITTOs for each process is a must because:-
a) A few questions in the exam are directly on ITTO
b) Understanding ITTO helps understand which process the question is talking about and this helps eliminate a fewincorrect choices
Books Referred to:-
===================
Rita - Highly recommended
PBMOK - Highly recommended once you have gone thru' some other book
Kim Heldman - Good supplement to the above
During the exam:-
=================
Reached the exam center one hour early and was allowed to start the exam straight away.
Jacket/Sweater was not allowed inside the hall. However exam hall was not too cold
Exam hall was largely empty till the first one hour and then was flooded with GRE/TOEFL candidates
Scribbled a few ITTOs and EV formulae in the 15 min allotted before the start of the exam. This was more ritualistic I feel as during the exam I did not have to refer to the ITTOs I had scribbled as my memory did the job
Most questions were simple.
Most questions were 1-3 liners.
PSR was expectedly tough.
Reached the 200th question with abt about 1 hr and 25 min remaining.
I had left the formulae questions unanswered. Solved these and I had abt an hr and 10 min remaining.
Then started reviewing all questions. Changed 3-4 answers in all. When I reached 100, the clocked showed about 25 min remaining.
So went thru' the questions between 101-200 which were marked for review. Finished these and there were 5 min left on the clock.
I got impatient, got the exam to a close, filled the feedback form and got the result
Thanks and Regards,
Subramanian Srinivasan
