Failed PMP 2nd Attempt
Hi there,
I recently sat my PMP exam ( 29th July, 2013) and failed it on the 2nd attempt (4MP and 1BP).
The 1 BP was in Planning. I have appealed to PMI by writing to them via email - I'm awaiting their response.
In the meantime, I am a little confused about what constitutes a pass. I have seen various people who have passed the PMP exam with similar scores as I have. I noticed some of those who have passed the PMP exam on this forum have scored P in other domains and a BP in planning.
So, I can't quite figure out why in my case I didn't pass.
Anyhow, I will try again for the 3rd attempt adopting the PMBOK 5th Edition and Rita Mulcahy 8th Edition resources. Head First PMP 3rd Edition - I'm told is due for release in October 2013.
My typical studying approach included studying PMBOK (x1), Rita (x2) and Head First (x1).
Anyhow, if anyone has any recommendations that would help me boost my scores in the Planning - be much apreciated.
Cheers!

Exam Scoring
I can understand the agony but would suggest take it in the right spirit. The passing score depends on the overall score that you got for the 175 question (remember 25 are not scorable ques). As per some Books, the passing use to be 61% which translates to approx 107 questions (out of 175) or 122 out of 200. But there is no way we can get this confirmed as neither PMBOK nor PMI site mentions anything about it

Thanks Sandy.
Yep, I am a little gutted. When I am in better frame of mind I will attempt it again soon. In the meantime, I'm going to think up another strategy based on the advice given here in the forum.
I wish I had come across this website sooner!

Make PMBOK (x3), Rita (x2).
Make PMBOK (x3), Rita (x2). At one point PMBOK will make more sense than Rita, thats the time you are ready for exam. You don't need Andy Crowy or any other book. Only PMBOK is enough. Rita is only to generate interest in the topics.

Cheers AD!
I've got my PMBOK 5th Edition now. So will go over PMBOK 3x. No distributors in New Zealand to buy Rita Mulcahy ExamPrep 8th Edition - so I will have to order it from Australia, otherwise it will have to be the US.
Is the Fast Track CD worth getting? I hear its about $300 US.

You should appeal....
I also had 4MP and 1BP and passed. Technically the same result as you unless they consider Planning too important to be under MP. Good luck with your appeal.

Thanks
Thanks. I hope PMI overturn my fail to pass as well. Was your BP in a different domain than Planning?

I wouldn't recommend buying
I wouldn't recommend buying FastTrack. There are plenty of sample tests which can be finished. If you have older versin of FastTrack just looks for some sample questions. I had FastTrack got froma friend, but I hardly made 200 questions. most questions are similar to the qns in Rita's book.

My recommendation
I prepped for just a little over a month with the last week being very intense (8-10hrs a day). I reviewed Rita questions and purchased 4 mock exams from pmstudy.com. I didnt bother with the 1000s of other free ones becasue my time was so limited.
PMStudy exams were harder than my actual PMP exam that was given to me. I would recommend them.

PMStudy ...
I'm leaning towards getting 4 Mock Exams from PMStudy too.
Have ordered my Rita 8th Edition from Amazon (US) Gets here early Sept.
Hopefully, a better result this time.

Need clarification ....
Let's suppose I fail on my 3rd attempt at PMP ( heaven forbid I don't ! ). I would I need to wait 1 year from the last exam attempt to resit. Correct?
Does that mean I must re-apply for the PMP credential again? That is, re-submit all my project mgmt experience, reference contacts etc ... all over again?
