As per PMBoK , Methodology is system of practices, procedures, rules and techniques used by people who work in discipline. Essentially the method you adopt to deliver a project is project methodology.  Process groups namely Initiation, Planning... etc are part of the methodology

Process groups typically include:

  1. Initiation

  2. Planning and Design

  3. Execution

  4. Monitoring and Controlling

  5. Closing

The methodology provides the framework for Project Managers to accomplish their project tasks in an organized and well defined process. Methodology can also give PMs tools and techniques needed to manage successful projects.

Project methodology is a a set of practices, techniques, rules and procedures used by persons/users who work in a discipline. i.e For an ERP implementation project methodology used  by an organization is  Pre-Study, Requirements Gathering, Solution design, Solution development, Testing, User acceptance and Go –live.

Process groups are Initiating, planning, executing, monitoring & controlling and closing.

Now in ERP implementation during pre-study  all the process groups may come into picture and similarly in all the steps (solution design, testing etc) all the process groups may come.
