How would you consider your project to be successful ?

Q. You are reaching project completion, and want to understand whether your project was successful. In this context, for a project to be successful, what is the primary requirement?

1 Customer satisfaction
2 Exceeding customer expectations
3 Meeting the cost and schedule estimates
4 Satisfying the requirements of the project sponsor

option 4?

That is exactly what i thought, but PMStudy Says it is Option A - Customer Satisfaction, although i don't agree.

Questions like this should be taken with pinch of salt and move on... Even I think the answer should be 4... Because say for eg, if your project is to make a smartphone and if you have met all requirements of the sponsor then as far as PM is concerned the Project is successful. If your smartphone does not do well in market because customers are not satisfied that is a different issue all together.

But as for the PMP Exam goes, what do you think should we marked at the exam ?

As per Kim heldeman, Success of a project is determined by exceeding the expectations of stakeholders and customer is a key stakeholder.

Dear,

This question belongs to the Develop Project charter process. And you know the input requirer to develop project charter, i.e. statment of work. The SOW contains the description of product or services being produce by the project or the objective of the project given by the customer. And hence many of the times you may have observed that change requests are issued by customer. The ultimate user of the end result of the project is customer. And customer can be sponsor too.

Hence Answer 1 is correct.
