I passed my PMP on my first try today. Friday, July 2, 2012

My PMP preparation started with the Simpli-learn online course and the study continued and limited to weekends for the first 2 ½ months to only those repeated first 2 ½ chapters. ); 

A snap shot to a quotation of Winston Churchill “Failing to plan is planning to Fail.” to truly present my preparation. I realized lately, my exam is due in weekdays and started reading 6 hrs a day, after reading 4 days I attempted, the Standard Full Length PMP Simulation Test with so many power breaks and personnel breaks. Finally the summary show I’m scored just 65% and realized am in very bad shape to take real exam. Because my reading in forums reminded, one should score minimum 80% in model simulators.

The first thing I did was called Prometric and rescheduled my exam to extend 3 weeks by paying 70$, luckily that was the only day available to me, you cannot reschedule within couple of days of your exam and you’ll lose your entire fee. I wantedly opted for 3 weeks; I know I cannot carry this further considering other official tasks.

This time my reading was not only aggressive, but much planned too, I prepared a road map and pasted on desk. I read PMBOK with support books of Rita Mulcahy, Kim Heldman, and Andy crowe books repeatedly noting good stuff and practiced all those chapter end questions. This 8 hrs study continued to 2 weeks then I started taking practice tests and rereading my weak areas, when I realized am doing well, then took my full simulation test and scored 78%, I continued taking tests and reading glossary and summary of all those books and practiced all the formula and ITTO’s. After couple of tests am started scoring above 80% and I’m in a position to write not only 42 process of PMBOK also 79 process of Rita process chart along with all earned value formulas.

On the exam day even thou am well prepared I had tough time, travelling 800 km to write exam, rainy day, and bit feverish, my hotel kitchen not opened till 7a.m. I left without food; all these equally played their part. I can’t really reveal much on questions part, as it is against code of conduct but they really test your skills and knowledge and your practices too, but not difficult, and can be achievable, you need to put effort and be patient, if you’re still reading my mail then you’re already PMP or strong prospect. ):
