Question on Changes

The client demands changes to the product specification that will add only two weeks to the critical path. Whcih of the following is the BEST thing for the project maanger to do?
1. Compress the schedule to recover the two weeks
2. Cut the scope to recover two weeks
3. Consult with the sponsor about options
4. Advise the client of the impact of the change

Correct is 3,..
It;s from Rita's book. generally we fall for the option 4. But as per Rita's logic, we should have it consulted internally if the question already suggests the 'evaluation' has been done. If option 3 wasn't provided, then the option to go to client to advise on the impact would have neen correct.
I got puzzled thought will ask few people around.
