You are a project manager in a leading manufacturing company and managing a critical project for the company. Your project is facing severe cost constraints and you cannot delay the delivery date of the product. After consulting stakeholders and the customer, you decide to lower both the quality and grade of the product. The decision to lower the quality and grade of the product is?

 

 

A)  as a grade and quality should never be compromised in a product.

B)as grade can be compromised but not quality

As per key , answer is D and I am not convinced with it (Source :Simplilearn). I feel answer should be B.

 

Explanation:

Answer (d) Correct; as both grade and quality can be compromised as per project need. I am sure you will be surprised by this choice. Remember triple constraints and real life project constraints. Though it is not advised to compromise on quality and grade, the project manager and team are responsible for managing the tradeoff in quality and grade of the delivered product in specific scenarios. But it should be approved and agreed by the customer and stakeholders. Refer to PMBOK 4th Project Quality Management edition PN 190.

The project manager and the project management team are responsible the tradeoffs invloved to deliver the required levels of both quality and grade - PMBOK 4 P 190

The required quality and the grade level are set by the project team and this question points that the project team (PM + stakeholer) decides to reduce quality and the grade. So the choice D is correct.
