Passed my PMP exam on 20th Sept 2010

Happy to inform you guys that I passed my PMP exam.

I want to make few points with my experience and understanding, however you guys may have different views and i respect those.

1. PMBOK4 is not compulsory to read 3-4 times. One time study for top level understanding development is     good enough. Reading PMBOK 4 times makes it boring, book is not written in very interesting manner.

2. Focus should be on reading many book one time rather than reading same book 4 times. I read Headfirst , Andy crowey and  PMBOK only one time for all book. This gives me different ways of interpretation of same topic. It helps in memorizing too, book writer and publisher has distinct way of making the things interesting, you may like one of their style at least.

3. Mock exam , Mock exam and Mock exam. You will never be able to understand everything about what PMP exam want to test only by going through books and concept. In fact, PMP exam test application of concept rather than asking straight away question like what is Activity list.

4. Solve at least 3000 question either by mock test exam or any way, must revisit to wrong answered question by you. Clear yours doubt though questions.

5. I did pmstudy (200), ritha fast track of 1500 question, Headfirst (400), Andy crowey online tutorial and mock tests(1500).  Apart from this solve all chapters question.  Solving question is best way to get prepared for exam.

6. I was knowing nothing about PMP and PMP Exam and I was not knowing what all i have written above, thanks to pmzilla and only pmzilla which became my guide, mentor and everything. I accidently get to this website when googling for some tips and tricks for PMP exam. I am sure there are many other useful sites which can help you, but i am not aware of those. You should visit these sites regularly to keep yourself in tune.

7. Make sure that you reach yours prometric centre well in advance, be relaxed before entering in to exam cabin. I became late because i could not find the test center easily. Initial 15 mint got scrwed due to this.

8. Relax, this is just a PMP exam, no one is going to harm you if you fail. At most you will loose some money if you fail. Knowledge will be always there.

Don't worry, you try again.

Thank you very much

Hi Rajat,

Congrats!. Can you please tell me how many hours you put in for the exam preparation?

I am reading the Rita'a Exam Prep (6th edition). Will have a look at the other books you suggested.

Thanks,

Aaron

 Hi Aaron,

I don't think number of hours are important, yours concept gathering technique, yours educational and professional background may determine how quickly you grasp the concept. I took almost 100hrs of whole preparation.

Thanks

Rajat

Congrats Rajat on passing the PMP and thanks for sharing the valudable info. I have a couple more weeks to go for the exam and i am taking mock tests. You referred to the Andy Crowe mock tests and online tutorial. can you provide me with the link?..

PM Fastrack seems so expensive.. i was wondering if there is a way to get around it by visiting sites offering freemock exams.. Please provide some pointers.

i read Rita mulachy book couple of times and PMBOK as well and solved questions as part of the book.

Thanks for your help

Hi,  When you buy a Andy crowe new book , they will give you one week subscription to PMP prep tutorial and test on https://insite.velociteach.com/index.aspx. These tutorials are really good and mock test are complete simulation of PMP exam. For me, 1 week was enough but you can buy the subscription for 1 or 3 or 6 month, charges are costly.
