Passed on 06/28 - 4MPs & 1P - My LL

I am excited to announce that I cleared my PMP on 06/28 with 4MPs & 1MP. Here is my LL

I applied for PMP during July 2013 and got approved without any audit. Initially I planned to attempt during Dec 2013 but due to tight schedules at work, I couldn't.
My serious preparation started from the month of Mar 2014. Since I was running out of my 1 year PMP application status, I had to clear my exam by July 2014, else I would have to re-apply.
The first thing I did was, booked the exam slot for Jun 28th 2014.

I travel about 3 hrs to my work daily. So my first preparation source was PMP podcasts. I completed 1 round of PMPBOK & RITA in 30 days. The next 30 days, I stared taking exams and in-parallel studied second round of these books.

By the time of my exam day, I think I have studied PMPBOK at least 3 times and Rita twice. But I didn’t do it a sequential order; I studied them based on my test results to cover my gaps.
Below are exams I took
PMStudy (free) - 65%
ExamCentral (free) - 63%
Andy Crowe(Free) - 80%
PMFastrack - 62%
Scordo exams - 1-12 - Around 70%

Things which worked for me:

1) By looking at my mock exam results, I thought of re-scheduling my exam. I lost hopes and wasn't sure why I was scoring less. But my 6th sense told me to give a try.
So I stopped giving any more mock exams. I had just 2 days in my hand. I just started attempting Rita's questions on the end of each chapter for the second time (I already took them during my first round of study)
I looked into the explanation of each answer, the reasons they used to eliminate other options. This gave me confidence. So during the exam, I decided to place myself in a position not just picking the right answer, but proving that other options are 100% wrong.

2) RITA's process chart
To be frank, I didn’t even look into this chart before. 2 days before my exam, I started to study this chart. During the first 15mins of the exam tutorial, I took a brain dump of this chart. Even though I couldn’t dump it 100%, it helped me a lot. Whenever there is a situational question, I looked into this chart to see in which step/process I am currently in w.r.to the question.
I could able to answer most of the questions with the help of this. Again, just the brain dump will not help you. You need to have the understanding of all the areas. This chart will just guide you in the right direction

3) My Notes:
Right from day 1 of my preparation, I started preparing my own notes. I was inspired by Arun Nair & Others notes. Instead of following their notes, I took them in my own understanding terms. I think on an average I wrote the summary of each knowledge area at least 3 times.

Final Tips:
- Don't be panic, trust yourself. If you believe in your hard work, go ahead and give the exam. Do not judge your capability based on your mock exam score (either positively or negatively)
- During the exam, try to read all the other options. When you pick an answer, try to answer yourself on why the other options are incorrect.
- Use RITA chart. Understand the in & out of it. You should be able to place yourself in the chart when you read a question
All the best!!

Thanks LL, you give me more confidence, i fail on 19/Jun with 2MP3BP and my mock exam result is likely to yours.

I will take 2nd attempt exam on 24/Jul, hope i will be success.

Hello PMP Fighter,

Do not get discouraged with your first result. If you are confident enough, go ahead with the second attempt. As I mentioned in my LL, try to brain dump RITA's process chart. Practice all RITA questions on the back of each chapter couple of days before the exam. All the best!!

Congratulations on your PMP, with your mock tests score one could have thought you may not clear, but great effort in the end.
