What is better R.E.P or self study

Hi everyone, I want to apply for the PMP. Before I do that,I am inclined to know whether we need coaching thru R.E.P's or we can also pass thru Self Study? Is there any recommended study material?

To get the 35 contact hours you will need to take a course from REP.
