PMP Prep Book

Hello,

What version of Rita's book to buy and read to take the exam prior to Jan 1 2016?

Hello guys, Im trying to study both Rita and PMP book for PMO exam. All of these processes and the way the books are written - it is so abstract ! One real life example would replace all of that theory ! So I tried to search some real life examples (or even made up case studies) where inidividual processes would be linked to practical examples but I couldnt. Can anyone help me please ?

Thank YOU

Andrej7,

Sadly, there are case studies every day in the newspaper (or Internet) that demonstrate how PMP principles were NOT met in many projects.  Here is the most current example of a case study.

VW Diesel Engine Scandal - Within a week of VW admitting they created software to "fake" low emissions on their diesel engines, their CEO resigned.

This is the most current demonstration of what happens when PMP principles are NOT met.  What PMP principle was violated?  It was a clear ethics violation for any PMP near that VW project.

There are four pillars of PMP ethics (sometimes found in the PMP test).  They are RRFH.  Responsibility, Respect, Fairness, and Honesty.

Here are my Honesty notes from my 200 pages of PMP notes for PMBOK 4:

Honesty – We seek to speak the truth and we seek the courage to deliver bad news when necessary.
1. We do not engage in or condone behavior that is designed to deceive others
2. We do not engage in dishonest behavior with the intention of personal gain or at the expense of another.

Any PMP close to the VW Diesel scandal was in clear violation of PMI Ethics.  And if you have read PMI's addendum on ethics, anyone working on the VW Diesel project and studying for the PMP at Volkswagen was in violation of the code of ethics.

When I taught the PMP in class I would sometimes discuss world, national, or local events that demonstrated projects that had gone well or poorly.

You don't need some PMP book on case studies.  You just need a newspaper.

Best Wishes on Passing the PMP,
