Cleared PMP from the first try
Hi,
I cleared my PMP from the first try.
My learning plan was:
PMBOK once
Rita's book 3 times.
Practice tests... in Rita and ExamCentral.
Tried others, but quality was really bad of the exam (i.e. skillsoft) and I mentioned that in this forum.
Wasn't learning ITTOs at all.
My goal was not to memorize, but to understand what the processes are and what am I doing diferently and understan why it should be done as PMI says and why.
Scored Moderately Proficient in all the areas.
Used 2 hours out of 4, was planning to review all the questions one time after answering all of them, but to be honest, was sick of reading all the questions again :)
During the exam there were some questions where I couldn't undertand what is being asked. Also had some questions, where I thought I knew the answer, but it wasn't listed as a choise.
My biggest problem is that I do not read the question correctly. Please read all the questions carefully as sometimes one word in a question that you miss might change the whole story.
qq. on PMI.org under certifications it's still not reflected, do you know how long does it take for it to be reflected in there?

congrats to your success
Many congratulations to your success.
Could you tell us how did you prepare for the test? I mean in which order? did you read PMBOK first? When did you take your mock test and how frequently?

I read PMBOK first, then
I read PMBOK first, then occasionally if needed had to look at specific places for reference.
Then Rita's. When was reading Rita's for the third time I wasn't reading it cover to cover, only places that I thought are important (I marked those places while reading it for the second time).
Sample tests, took 4 times:
1. before the reading
2. After reading PMBOK and Ritas for the first time.
3/4 after reading Rita's for the 3rd time.
On the sample tests I was scoring 50%/70%/80%/85% (some questions started repeating).
When reviewing the test results, I wasn't trying to memorize the answers (as same question will not be on the exam) I was trying to understand why that specific answer is the correct one, so that improves your better understanding and sets up your mind as PMI wants :)

Tried multiple tests. But
Tried multiple tests. But completed only tests in Rita's book and Exam Central. So this is my answer.
Wouldn't go with skillsoft or 175 "pdf" questions where questions weren't worded correctly or I believe answers were based on the personal test creator's experience.
Keep in mind that I consider the fact that the only true source for me is PMBOK. Also keep in mind that I haven't checked other tests, so this is based ONLY on my personal experience.
While I salute people that do participate in here and I was able to find and got some really valuable information, I would suggest finding another forum which is more active than this one, unfortunately I couldn't find one.
