Question for SS....

Hi SS, hope you are doing well. I have a question for you, as always! If there is any change request from any SH at any point of the project, is it mandatory to do an analysis first and then send it to the CCB? I am asking because once the PM does the analysis then should he also submit his analysis along with the change request or is it project and situation specific? Whenever a change request is requested by any stakeholder of the project, the very first thing the PM should do is analyze it and make an impact analysis on all baselines. If there is an impact in any of the baseline the PM should discuss with the stakeholder first about the impact. Still, if the stakeholder is firm for the change request, the PM should take the change request to the change control board.


A trick here – change control board will only come into picture when the changes are sure to be done and not when analysis is done. Change request analysis, impact on baselines, negotiations etc is the duty of PM with the change request owner.


So always read the question to make sure the impact analysis is already done, if not done go for impact analysis before going to the change control board. In short, read and understand the question properly before choosing the choice.

So the bottom line remains, "Read the question v v v carefully" :)


 


Like I have seen many questions where it is explicitly mentioned the change would mean 10 weeks late or 10million dollars expenditure and so on. This is where it means, the analysis is not required because the fall out is already known. And then it is left on the judgment of the PM to talk to the PMO or customer rather than blindly sending it to the CCB.
