Passed PMP July 9th 2012
I passed PMP in first attempt last Thursday with MP in all areas. I completed test in 2 :45 and did revision for next 45 miutes. Submitted the test 30 minutes before. I wouldl say questions were balanced, straight forward questions were approx 75 where I was dead sure of answers. Another set of 100 questions were where using elimination you would end up with two answers and then guess by trying to remember all the knowledge you gained in last few months. There were approx 40 questions on formula, these all were staright forward, 5-7 could be tricky.
Honestly when I hit submit I was not too sure of passing so when I looked at 'Congratulation' I was too happy. There were approx 20 questions on ITTO, I had understood them logically but didn't really remember all so I guess I lost 5-7 questions there. It will be good idea to absorb and remember these via some tricks but I am not good at remembering so I did not try even grasping when I was preparing for PMP however I was daily looking at PMBOK for ITTO atleast couple of times for the last 15 days and that helped me a lot.
For teh preperation I read Rita's book, PMBOK and several online books for free on 24x7 store. I tried 4 mock exams and first two I scored less than 60%, last two it was between 60-75 % score so I would say I did not study too hard but may have spent 1-2 hours daily for 5-6 months on regular basis.
what worked for me was to take few blank sheet fo papers and write ITTO that I knew out of memory and improtant terms for that knowledge area. I did this couple of times and each time I did this, it helped my confidence.
On the day prior to exam, I took a good 8 hours sleep, got up in the morning; did brush up for 1 hour in the morning, surfed notes and then did not look at notes or did not carry any books to test center. I listened music in the car and before the exam when I knew I had to kill 2-3 extra hours that I had before exam, I did not want to study that time and wanted to keep my mind and soul calm. This helped me personally.
Hope this helps. All the very best to all aspiring candidates and its an awesome feeling to get PMP certified :-)
