Initiating and planning project
Hello everyone..
As part of the project management, planning process group comes after initiating the project. My questions are:
1- Is the time consumed in the planning processes included in the project duration? For example, when the project start date is 1-Jan-2010 and the end date is 1-May-2010, is this duration includes initiating and planning process groups?
I'm asking because when you plan activities to be executed on MS project, it assumes the first activity starts at project first date. What happened to initiating and planning dates?
2- Planning processes consume time and effort, in other words, in planning, there are certain activities has to be done (let's call them activities_A). Activities_A is to collect requirement, create WBS, create the activities under the WBS, estimate time and cost for these activates. The question is, has Activities_A itself has been planned, scheduled, and cost estimated?
Thank you

1)I would not include
1)
I would not include initiation activities in the project schedule as the project is not started until we finish the project charter. The project charter is the document that authorizes the starting of the project.
Regarding planning activities, I would include them in the project duration as they are taking a substantial amount of time and that the project is already started at this point.
2)
Activities_A has been planned in the project management plan (4.2 Develop project managment process)
