Headfirst 200 Questions - Question on Critical Path

Hello

I attempted the Headfirst 200 this morning, and I had doubts on this question

There was a sequence diagram given, and then LF was asked to be calculated for one of the activities that had path convergence.

The answer for the question was below:

It’s just easy to calculate the late finish (LF) of an activity in a network diagram. Look at the

following activity, take its LS (late start), and subtract one. If there’s more than one following activity,

use the one with the lowest LS. So for activity F in the question, the following activities are G, with

an LS of 17, and H, with an LS of 11. So the LF of F is 11 - 1 = 10.

What i did not understand was why we need to subtract 1 from the lowest LS. I picked the LS which was lowest and I was wrong.

Can anyone please shed light on this

Sorry i could not paste the diagram, but its Q 106 frm Head first 200.

Appreciate it,

Thanks, SS

This confusion is because , there are 2 methods.

one is start by 0 method

second is start by 1 method.

HF is following  - start with 1 method.

you are solving by - start with 0 method.

Various you-tube examples are available , and this topic is discussed several times on pm zilla , you may refer latest topics on critical path or network related questions.

pmp/pmi follows 0 method.
