Passed couple of weeks ago-Lesson Learned and additional question for the forum
This post is a two parter, please do read through the bottom question when you are done.
1. First let me describe my successful passing of the PMP. I started back in November of last year. I read the PMBOK 3rd edition (didn't pay attention at the time that it was the old version). The read got me interested in setting myself up for success. In December I decided to join PMI (along with the local chapter), download the 4th edition, and add some additional study material. I purchased the Andy book (thoroughly enjoyed it!) and again read through chapters of the PMBOK in December and January at an approximate 10 hrs a week or so. In February I purchased the Head First book and began reading it and set a plan to a date to take the test. Increased study time 20-30% in February and scheduled the exam for 4 March, 2011.
My biggest push came the week before, I took the week off and I spent many nights on free online exams, iphone apps with questions and answers ($$), reading, and of course mind melds of the processes and their ITTOs. Went into the exam at 0800 and spent almost 3 hrs on the test with no breaks (I was too nervous after marking 35% of the questions). Spent the last hour on review of the marked questions (changed quite a few) and ended with 7 minutes left...I was spent. Hit submit and did the stinkin' survey and results of passed shortly thereafter! I was moderately proffecient in all catagories, but it was good enough to pass!
I recomend taking time reading the material beyond the PMBOK as well, the PMI's guidance on the test and the many many materials available to members on the books24/7 site free with your membership of PMI. It will be a great place for me to further develop my PM skillset in the future.
2. On to my quick poll. I spent some money on iphone apps for test questions. Mostly a waste of money, especially one (won't mention name of product) that had an update in November, 2010 but questions were based upon 3rd edition!!! Anyways, long story short I am thinking about developing an Iphone app with a much better question base (I have an instructor/course dev background) and user interface that is actually worthy of use and purchase. I believe there is a market out there with the new test material coming out soon, and in general mobile tools that we use in our daily lives are becoming more prevalent, so why not develop something that can help out our community. I am of course taking a PMI process approach to my new project :)
Question is, in the past or present have you use(d) apps for your studying of the PMP and were they beneficial?
Take care and thanks for the feedback!

Yes I agree, most of the
Yes I agree, most of the iphone apps and the tests which have 1000s of questions are actually waste of time and money. THat is why at PMZilla we have listed only the good practice tests and have kept our question bank concise and to the point.
Congratulations on your PMP and thanks for the writeup
