Passed PMP on 11 Mar 2011

 Hi all

Would like to share my LL for passing the PMP exam. I have been studying seriously since start of Jan this year. Pushed back my exam date a week due to test location availability.

My "strategy":

1. Read through PMBOK 4, think around 3 times. I think this is an important book to prepare for the PMP exam. It's not the experience that counts, it's what the book says that matter.

2. Supplemented my reading with Project Management Professional Exam Study Guide by Kim Heldman (5th Edition). Has really some good exam tips and tough questions at the end of each chapter

3. Downloaded the PMP comprehensive notes from Chowdary (at this website). Simply use that as my main preparation notes. Really comprehensive and useful

4. Attempted mockup questions from anywhere - from this website, PMstudy, practice questions from my education provider in Singapore (Comat). Went through 2x200 questions mockup on the last 3 days of my preparation to ready myself for the long exam duration. I feel this is very important in my preparation.

5. Average score for the 2 mockups around 80%.

6. Lots of self belief. Don't give up even though you cannot answer some of the questions out there. Rather make mistakes now than in the actual exam.

7. Focus quite a bit on procurement, quality and risk management. Felt that that are my weakest areas.

8. Memorise the 42 processes and formulas. Plan out exactly what I am going to do during the exam. Wrote down the 42 processes and formulas at the start so that there are less things to remember.

9. I didnt take any breaks. But that's up to individual.

10. Try to read the questions and answers carefully. You will probably get tired and distracted as you go along in the exam. Try to look away from the screen for awhile and refocus back. It's easy to make mistakes when you are tired.

Passed on my first attempt. Thanks everyone who has contributed to the LL or any other way on this forum. They are really insightful.
