Passed PMP exam on 9 April 2011 (1st try)

Dear friends:

As many of you I've been a silent reader of the web, I Passed the PMP exam yesterday, mi lessons learnt:

Practice exams:

Oliver 75 tough (58%) the first one I took when I wasn't well prepared but helps to get you scared and start studying seriously, however I think is good for reference.

Head First: around 75%

Certchamp: 77%

Prepare PM Mock1: 88.6%

Measure up (7 questions): 71%

The reon (13 questions): 84%

Prepare PM mock 2: 85%

PM Study 1: 76%

PM Study 2: 76.57%

PM Study 3: 72.57%

I hadn't enough time to take the fourth PMStudy exam because I bought the exams 3 days before my examination date, I advise you not to over study I was bored of taking the exams from PM study cause y take them in just 2 days, and for the PMP exam I was very tired.

My study started in september 2010, a long time you may think, but I had no choice since my work is hard and also I'm studying a Master in Construction Management so I had to divide my time and of course my work and master had the priority as I could delay my PMP exam for two times. I had weeks during which I couldn't study anything about PMP. I advice you to study continuously because this helps you reduce the effort in remembering everything again and again as had to do, unfortunately sometimes it is impossible.

My study material was:

Rita Mucahy's book - read twice (did all the practice exams at the end of each chapter scoring always above 70% or 75%)

PMBOK (read three times), the last time I think was my best reading, I advice you to take your own notes, I did it, read carefully and took notes and make abstracts of every term and process you don't understand or have difficulty to remember.

No memorization needed, even in Earned Value Analysis, please try to undestand the concept. Maybe some memorization in remembering the Human Resource Theories but no more.

About the exam:

Questions not too hard, a few wordy but no so long, EVM questions were simple althought that was my exam maybe others are different. Pay attention on studiyind project selection methods and undestand well the Economic Methods (ROI, Sunk Costs, etc), pay attention to quality.

My Scores:

  • Initiating: Below proficient

  • Planning: Proficient

  • Executing: Below Proficient

  • MyC: Proficient

  • Closing: Proficient

  • Prof and social responsability: Moderately proficient

My analisys about this is that planning is one of the most important to pass, also initianting I performed poorly mainly for the questions about project economic project selection methods I think.

Finally thanks to PMZILLA admin and the guys who posted lessons learnt this my way for saying thanks posting my own experience.

Best regards and feel confident to take the exam.
