Passed PMP Today - 13th Dec 2010

Hi All

I am not the one who normally writes on forums but i really got some key inputs from this forum for my exam therefore its kind of my duty to share my experience & i will be glad if some else can be benefited out of it.

I started preparing for my exam around 2.5 months back, below is how i prepared.

1) Started with Rita Mulachy, this is a good enough book to pass this exam along with PMBOK. I started reading Rita's book & first reading was very casual, just got to know what happens & when.

2) Second reading of Rita's book was more in detail & got to know all the processes & K areas.

3) Third reading of Rita's book was again very detailed along with all the topics in PMBOK

4) One point to mention here, please do not ignore the PMBOK, its very IMPORTANT that you read the topics in PMBOK. Rita's book maps the topics with the PMBOK so this one is more than enough..

Practice Tests

I took PMStudy 4 paid tests & scored above 70% in all of them. These tests are good tests & helped me to get to know the type & language of questions.

One of the ket thing here is

Read the language of question very CAREFULLY & look at all the options before you pick your answer.

Practice as many questions as you can, this will give you good confidence & exam stamina.

Always reveiew the questions which you marked wrong along with the reason & note your gaps, this really helped.

Exam

Exam is not that tough but its tricky in terms of language, so READ the questions carefully & check all the options.

Lots of questions from Closing, Integration & Risk Management

Numericals were really simple, put the value in formula & get the answer.

Some of the Qs were really straight forward & you can't get them wrong even if you want to :)

One last thing

There is no need to remember the ITTO, you just need to know what happens when & understand the logic / relation between the processes.

There is a good  chance that you will OVER STUDY for this exam which is not at all required. Just take it step by step & don't stress yourself.

Pick any one book & follow the PMBOK.

Conclusion

This forum really helped me to get PMP certified & i would like to thanks all of them who shared their experiences. I hope my experience will help others to get them certified.

First, congratulation and thank you for the post.

I started two month ago to study and still in Rita's book... can you please advise:

1) I saw that you finished in 2.5 month of study. Did you study full time for that or only 2-3 hours a day ?

Can you advise how you did that in 2.5 month?

2) Do you have any pm experience that made you go quickly to the exam?

Thank you

Study need to be regular, i would suggest set a target for yourself.

If you are able to study for 2-3 hrs daily, thats a very good thing. I studied 1-2 hrs with breaks.

Best thing is plan & set a target for your self (book a date for exam).

Yes i have experience of project management but practically things are little different than specified in books.

Congrats ...on clearing PMP certification and Thanks for sharing your experience.
