PMBOK 5th edition
Submitted by aniaswin on Tue, 08/13/2013 - 18:58
Dear all,
I have my exam scheduled for Sept 23rd and i am in quite a dilemma on how to go about preparing. Here is my preparation so far.
1.) Read Head First PMP (4th Edition) once
2.) I have Rita (4th Edition)
3.) I am currently reading PMBOK 5th edition.
Need some tips from you in this regard.
1.) Can studying from PMBOK help me in Exams ? Especially in situational questions ?
2.) GIven that i cannot afford Rita 5th edition, can i prepare from 4th itself ? How much of a difference will it make ?
Awaiting Replies,
Thanks

I just passed PMBOK5I highly
I just passed PMBOK5
I highly highly recommend getting Rita 8th Edition
Its only $72 USD on Amazon
Passing your PMP using Rita will pay for the book 1000's of times over...get it!
PMBOK is invaluable Read the 5th edition at least once
Take practice exams to get the hang of situational questions
I took over 1500 practice exam questions before taking test
I would recommend at least 2 full 200 question mock exams and then 600-900 more questions
Good luck

PMBOK 5 Study Duration and Study Material
Congratulations on passing the PMBOK 5 exam. Thank you for the advice regarding Rita's book. Can you please tell me how many months you study for the PMBOK 5? I am considering taking the examination in the month of October 2013. As well, please advise the best materials to study for the situational questions on the PMBOK 5 examination. Thank you.

I really studied extensively 2 weeks from the test date
I studied 140 hrs in the last 2 weeks before the test.
Take at least 1000 mock exam questions to get a good grasp on the situational questions
Practice makes perfect
Good luck you will do well!

PMP Prep.
17.8.2013
Dear aniaswin,
You prep as listed above is fine..
PMBOK is 'absolute', do not forgo a chance to read it. Suggest that you read the PMBOK Process Group wise (i.e Start with 'Initiation' complete the 2 processes therein; then 'Planning' complete the 20 processess therein).
This pattern has helped me a lot; coincidentally, my study pattern was not to diff from yours; except that I hv cleared on Jul 3 - as per PMBOK 4th Ed.
You may also find good content as per PMBOK 5th Ed. on www.ricardo-vargas.com. Podcasts, Articles, Videos, Presentation etc.
Best wishes on your preparation.
