PMI Application - more than 4500 hours of PM Experience
Submitted by subbu.ramasamy on Wed, 09/12/2012 - 00:52
Hi,
I have a master degree and as per the PMI requirements for PMP - we are asked to showcase 4500+ hours of PM expereince. I actually have 8000+ hours of PM exp. So would it be ok to showcase them all or should I just select a few recent projects and showcase around 4500 hours? Please advice.
Thanks

No harm in putting all 8000+
No harm in putting all 8000+ hours. Just make sure that if you application gets audited you have the required evidence. But yes people can put more than 4500 hours to be sure.

Depends on whether you plan
Depends on whether you plan to 'use' your excess experience anywhere else or not.
As an example I had clocked in some 5.5-6k hours in my PMP application. Once I had passed the exam my focus shifted over to the PMI-ACP certification where they were asking for 1.5k hours(8 months approx) of 'exclusive' Agile project experience. But unfortunately, I had claimed a major part of that already during my PMP so I wasn't immediately eligible for the ACP. Lesson learned the hard way!
