PMP Exam - 8 Nov 2011
Took the exam yesterday....I can say that the questions were not so tough and at the same time not so easy. Of course, this is subjective and varies among all of us. However, I believe it all boils down on how prepared you are and the level of understanding you have with the PMP subject matter. So, don't be bothered when folks say the exam was tough, average or easy, just concentrate on your preparation and study well. Now, let me talk about my prep work and the things about it that should be noted....
* I orginally planned a 2-month review/study period but due to work, I ended up with just a month.
* Study materials - PMbok 4th edition, Rita 6th edition (read it twice), Rajesh Nair's notes, PM Fast track v6. I also took the PMstudy free exam (200 questions) and headfirst (free 200 questions)
* During the last 5 days before my exam date, I went thru Rita (2nd round) and all the simulation test in PM Fast Track, PMstudy, and headfirst. This wasn't fun at all mainly because of the timeframe I had. It was like forcing everything to be completed even if I was already tired. So, lesson here is, make sure you properly schedule your review. Avoid cramming as much as possible and don't under estimate how much content/knowlegde you need to digest. Practise exams do help condition you physically and mentally. Its not easy to read, understand, and answer 200 questions.
* For ITTO, i created my own notes which depicted the process item with its corresponding Input, TT and Output. For me, this was the main factor that allowed me to interconnect and see how these ITTO are related through out the knowledge areas/process groups. I didn't memorize them but had a good understanding on how they flow. Once you achieved that, you'll find yourself able to confidently answer ITTO related questions. Now, for me, confidently answering question doesn't mean correctly getting them :) but regardless, I guess it helps becasuse sometimes when you encounter a series of questions that you can't confidently answer, your morale gets low and may affect you in the succeeding items.
* Things I memorized. Of course, all the formulas, and p. 43 of PMbok. I would regularly look at the dump of p. 43 I did during the exam for some situational questions. It would then conditions my mind and makes me remember the stuff involved in that process. It served like my pointer or table of contents for my mind/knowledge.
So, before I end this, I'd like to thank PMzilla and its forumers :) I was a regular camper watching out for tips and techniques and I must say, they all contributed one way or the other to my preparations. And yes, I did pass the exam :) it felt really good. I finished it in 3 hours. I didn't use much of the remaining hours as I was excited and anxious to see if I passed or failed. But I highly recommend to go thru your answers again if you have the extra time.
