PMP failed Exam
Submitted by kan3 on Mon, 04/11/2011 - 10:50
Ok so I failed the exam. It was a difficult exam, all the answers seem like they are similar.
A couple of reasons, why I think i failed the exam,
1. ITTOs (I didn't memorize all of them)
2. The wordings of the questions.
I read RITA Exam prep guide, PMRoad Trip and notes from my training.
Did mock tests from PMStudy, questions from RITA book, 1000+ questions from my training provider, and TestInside.
Any suggestions, advice how I should prepare it again?
Thank you.

Your preparation seems
Your preparation seems adequate, did you read PMBoK also ? Its required to have good handle on it. I would do the following
1. Identify the weak areas from my PMP results.
2. While giving PMP tests try to find weak spots.
3. Focus on those knowledge areas which are weak and have through understanding of the concepts.
I would strongly recommend that you use the PMZilla 200 questions, that is a good benchmark and it will also help you identify weak areas .

Practice
Just concentrate on the areas where you are weak. You would have got print out after the test, use that. Also, make sure your fundamentals are sound, as in you should understand the concept clearly. If that is done. then it's much easier to identify the tricky answers that seem correct.

I didn't read PMBOK, can that
I didn't read PMBOK, can that be a reason I failed?
For example, one of the questions was about what's crashing?
Now I know it's schedule compression technique, but the answers were harder than that, for e.g,
2 of the 4 options were,
1. Expediting
2. Truncating.
Now I thought it was truncating term but I was wrong, It's expediting. I found that term in PMBOK (after failing the exam).

Hello Kan3: You don't need to
Hello Kan3:
You don't need to memorize, don't just read the PMBOK or other prep books as if they are a novel, try reading and understanding every sentence you read. About the question you talk, its understanding of the concept to infere expediting is the correct answer, if you crash the schedule you look for a fast and shorter execution of an activity so expediting is the correct answer. Maybe you may look to another prep book to understand the concepts for me rita was ok, but I've heard Headfirst is useful to understand the concepts too.
Anyway you will do it next time, I recommend you to take mock exams, of an author diferente of the book you study. Good luck in your next try.
César.
