Project Experience Question--
Hi All,
I have a large project I worked on for 1 years and 7 months with hours totaling out to 2880 hours. Should I break this into two projects for the sake of PMI not doing a double take due to the amount of hours on one project?
Has anyone who has successfully passed the application process had a project with as many hours as this?
Thanks!
EDIT: I don't think I communicated myself clearly. I do have the total required hours of 4500, but for this ONE project I have 2880 hours...I only wanted to know if this is too many hours to list for one project...
Thanks, and sorry for the confusion.

YOu cannot do that. Your work
YOu cannot do that. Your work experience should be 36 months, non overlapping. You will have to wait before you take your PMP

Well you can split up the
Well you can split up the projects, but you must be honest with your start and finish dates for each....You will get full credit for the overlapping hours, but you will not get credit for overlapping months. I am in a similar situation where my hours are way over the top for requirements while my monthly time only meets the requirements.
Be honest, because falsifying your application only degrades the value of the cert for the rest of us.
If you only qualify for the CAPM, then get that...it's a great cert and shows you are on the right track to getting the PMP, and employers value honesty.
Keep in mind you do not have to be a project manager for all those months, you merely have to participate on the project as one of the roles listed in the drop down box. If you aren't sure what qualifies and what doesn't, then give PMI a call and they'll help you decide what to report and what not to report. I called when I was concerend about getting audited for a VERY large project which involved me getting rid of all the stakeholders and project participants. I have no idea how to contact ANY of the individuals tht were involved. I asked if I could use a previous director who was closely aware of my project, and PMI said that if that's the best that I have, then I could use him without worry so long as he was genuinely familiar with my work....and he was, so I did.
They'll help you if you have legitimate questions, just be honest.
EDIT: and no, i didn't tear apart a company, I am a government contractor and I moved a military command from one location to another, all the funcitons moved but the people spread out to the four winds to other assignments or retired. No way to track them down.

As long as you have the
As long as you have the relevant documentation / manager to back you up during an audit, there should be no reason to break it up.
Additonally, call up PMI and check with them (just to be sure).

Proj Experience Question
You do not have to break your experience up for this project.
I had two very large projects such as these along with a couple of mini projects and PMI accepted my app. without any questions.

Two of my reported projects
Two of my reported projects exceeded several thousand hours each, though I haven't a bachalaureate so my requirements are much higher than everyone else's. I had lots of project crossover, so my hours and months are pretty huge, but PMI accepted it.
