Question on calculating total duration of activities - Please help

Hi everyone, could you please help with the question below?

Activity A has a duration of 5 days and 0 float. Activity B has a duration of 2 days and 3 days of float. Activity C has a duration of 9 days and 0 float . Activity D has a duration of 8 days and 1 day float. What is the total duration of the activites?

Answer says 14 days. I think I've figured it out but would like a bit more insight.

Thanks you,

Like most questions I'm seeing there is not really enough info in the question to provide definitive answers (and I feel the "best" answer is always debatable).

But I suppose, in this scenario it can be presumed that the float times listed for activities B and D imply that they can be done concurrently with activities A and C respectively.  And so activities A and C make up the critical path (which is also suggested by the 0 day floats) and combine to (9+5) a 14 day duration.

...but still seems like there are unsubstantiated assumptions here and I might only get this one right if the other three answers didn't have any mathematical possibility.

If can fairly assume that in total we have 4 activities and since question says two of the activities are having 0 slack  we can assume both fall on critical path.... since the duration of these activity are not same so they are not two critical path, so we can sum these two as DanP has written.
