Sample question

Sample question: For your comments,

Project is going 1 day ahead schedule and the work is going on well. Two stakeholders just approached PM to tell that they have an improtant change that needs to be made. That change will put project behind schedule. What PM should do?

A. Implement the change because project is ahead of schedule

B. Refuse to make the change because the stakeholder did not take it to change control board

C. Refuse to make the change untill the stakeholder document it in a change request

D. Make sure stake holder know that PM is open to change and should tell stakeholder to talk to project sponsor.

What should be answer? A and B is straight away rejected. C also not good answer because PM can not ask stakeholder to come up with documented change request. It is PM's duty to document and generate change request for approval of CCB if any stakeholder suggests the chang varblly.

D also not good answer because it is not serving any purpose.

Actual answer is C.

Why?

Pradeep

Pradeep, here is my explanation, choice A and D can be straight way ignored. A you already know. About D, sponsor doesnt have the authority for approval and rejection of changes, unless specified. He is involved mainly with charter and financing the project

I was confused with choice B and C. Now if you know answer is C, I have the explanation for you, for any change to take place, just remember, firstly for any change to take place,  there needs to be change request, and its not the responsibility of PM to raise and document it. Anybody involved in project.e.g. any stakeholder can raise a change request.

2) - then its the responsibility of CCB to either approve or reject he change request.

3) - actual change takes place.

Note : In special cases, like emergency releases, manager can also have limited authority to approve a change request.

Hope this clarifies your doubt.
