PERT
You are appointed the project manager of a proposed natural gas treatment plant. You are expected to deliver this project. Construction site has been acquired without land survey. It is required to construct a temporary office at the project site before the main project begins. The activities and duration in days are as follows:
A- prepare foundation (7days)
B- make and position door frame (2 days)
C- lay drains, floor base and screed (15days)
D- install services and fittings (8 days)
E- erect walls (10 days)
F- plaster ceiling (2 days)
G- erect roof (5 days)
H- install door and windows (8 days)
I- fit gutters and pipes (2 days)
J- paint outside (3 days)
Some of these activities cannot be started until other activities have been completed. For example activity G cannot begin until activity E has been completed. Activity D must follow E, while E must follow A and B. Activity F must follow D and G, while G must follow E. Activity H must follow G and activity I must follow C and F. Finally activity J must follow I.
You are required to:
1.
Determine the critical path of this project
2.
Make Gantt chart of the project.
2) Discuss (giving specific example) why projects fail to achieve its objectives. How does each
of these concepts: Technical, Economics, Commercial, Organisational and Political (TECOP)
affect failed projects.

I think this one is not a PMP
I think this one is not a PMP exam sample, but a course assignment. who is ur professor? hehe! You may use MS Project or Primavera to schedule the activity and generate the bar chart. Consider the dependencies. You can also generate the critical path thereafter.

Gantt chart
Dear ProMgrs / ORIGINATOR
In your attached gantt chart activity 3(c) is shown to attached with finish to activity 6 (f), then arrow shown to start of activity 9(i), why it is so?
As per my opinion according to the given question activity 3(c) will come directly to activity 9(i).
second activity 6 (f) could not be left open ended it will be go to end(finish)
Next Critical path will be
start _A- E-D-F-I-J-F_finish =32 days
SEE ON MY BLOG , CLICK PICTURE WILL BE BIGGER AS READABLE

Hi sspawar, thanks for your
Hi sspawar, thanks for your input.
Why did you have another F before finish? in your critical path.
Your chart is correct but that is a PERT chart. The question asks for a Gantt Chart. Remember that these two are different charts. Second, in my gantt chart and filtered critical path, total number of days is also 32; and the acvities are the same as what you identified (EXCEPT the EXTRA F you wrote before finish).
Let me clarify your observations:
You said: In your attached gantt chart activity 3(c) is shown to attached with finish to activity 6 (f), then arrow shown to start of activity 9(i), why it is so? >>>> In my chart, Activity C is not related to F, but only to Activity I. Please recheck your observation. Why to Activity I? This is as required by the condition of the question as "Activity I MUST follow C"
You said: second activity 6 (f) could not be left open ended it will be go to end(finish) >>>> In my chart, Activity F (#6) is not open-ended, but is related to ACtivity 9 (i) . kindly recheck.
Again, i would explain - what u did is correct if PERT chart is what is being required. Otherwise, if a Gantt Chart is required, i am sure if you will use MS Project or primavera, you will have the same as mine. Conditions considered in the Gantt chart is that - NO LAG OR LEAD considered as the question does not say so.

By mistake
Dear Pro Mgr
By mistake i wrote
6(F), open ended in your gantt chart is 8 (H).
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
When condition is given - Activity I will follow the C and F.
In your gantt chart, it is given that activity C has been attached to activity , F then it is going to activiy I.
I think it is wrong, according to quesrtion, activity C will go direct to activity I.

Hi sspawar, Maybe the way
Hi sspawar,
Maybe the way you look at that activity C that passes thru F, thats only ur visual point, but in fact it is not, see the arrow head it is on I. About H, u r right it was left open ended, and has to be related to J on Finish-to-Finish relationship to complete and close the gantt chart.

Excellent
hi ,
In fact it is not passes thru, arrow head is only shown to I. You are right.
My doubt is then why it is connected to F without any reason or there is any reason. and what this particular connection (C to F)is representing?

Haha! Seems u dont
Haha! Seems u dont understand me my friend. Know what, for u to understand, plot the question considering all its condition in MS Project and let urself see what would be the visualization of the chart. As what im telling u, iit the two are not telated tho visually it looks like. Know what, relationship in MS Project or primavera is determind by the end of the line or line arrow head and not thru whichthe line crosses. What do u want the line be that crossses other object in the chart? To jump? Haha! Or become broken?
I challenge u my friend,do the same in ms project and let urself see the behavior of the chart for urself to understand ur own worries.
