Faild my first attempt

I faild my first attempt yesterday with the below results :

Initiation - mp
Planning - mp
Executing - bp
Monitoring and Controlling - mp
Closing - bp

i don't know what gone wrong , i need your advice what should i do should i take the 2nd attempt soon or what ??

If you can share what all you did to prepare, what all books you read, time you dedicated, which all mock exam you took, how much you scored etc some volunteer like me can guide you up.


Success and failure is all part of life, you have learnt from the failure that you were not prepared for the PMP exam, by somehow or the other. Take it positively and grab it the second time.

i started studing May 2012 giving almost 2 hrs everyday started with reading Headfirst, then at June i started to add read pmbok and rita in paralel had a problem in memorizing the concepts and itto , i mean when i read the chapter i understand it as a whole but when i start answersing i fail in remembering the definitions.

I started on the first of july to study almost 6 hrs a day by solving tests mainly RITA FASTRACK v7 , Oliver , pmstudy never got more than 65 % in any of them .I didn't memories ITTO but i understand alot of it as a sequence. on the exam i was having supporting native language and when i solving the Q? i had confidence that am on the right track many questions i understand and answered correctly "thats what i thought :( "

yet got FAILD with two bp.

what do you think ??

Few lesson learnt for you:
1. You should keep around 3 months time for preparations. If you have english language understanding issue, you should add 2 months time to it. Most of the books and help material will be in English, and if you have issues with English language, you should put around 5-6 months of time.
2. Securing just 65% is not a benchmark for PMP preparation fitness. You should see 70% accuracy in all process groups. Never see the overall percentage in mock test.
Next….my recommendations:
1. Do not hurry, target your next attempt after 3 months
2. For 45 days, read Rita (Once), Headfirst(Once) and PMBOK (2 times). Put more time on PMBOK and try to understand its language, tone, and keywords of the IITO.
3. For Next 45 days, buy mock test from some other good source and practice around 50 questions daily. For all wrong answer refer PMBOK for references.

I also failed my first PMP attempt. And now I am back to square one.  I read the Rita Mulcahy PMP Exam Prep twice and the PMBok twice as well.  I did well on the RM simulations, however when I started taking simulations from other sources I scored badly.  I have been on this preparation journey for two months now and I can't seem to have a consistent scoring. My confidence is crashed and I'm stressed out thinking of a way how to study again.

Here's were I failed:

Initiation - bp
Planning - bp
Executing - mp
Monitoring and Controlling - mp
Closing - mp

Now what do I do?

Dear zulueta_a,


Please understand the structure of PMI, they are global institute and over thousands of people are involved in framing PMP questions. When you have so many people involved in framing PMP questions, you cannot expect questions to be of similar types.


The biggest issue I see is that, you concentrated on just one material. You just acquired language, tone and contents of one provider, rather one writer. Assuming what I said above, you have to try flavors, there are many free sources, try them, what’s stopping you when you have to pay no cost? There are around 1000-1500 free questions available from so many sources, practice them. When you practice questions from different sources, you will get different flavors, grammar, text, sentences etc. Keep in mind, variations makes human strong.


Take exam in next 40-45 days. You have seen the PMP questions now, so make a plan, concentrate more on PMBOK and practice around 50 mock questions daily.

I think you are doing a great job by taking time to help others


Can you tell the list of sites providing good mock exams even if they are paid..Exploring on net there are thousands of sources and there is lot of scope for confusion ..I know about examcentral and lets say i want to spend max $50-$60 which site's mock exams would be sufficient ..This I am saying that i would be practising Rita , heads first and reading PMBOK also


People say PMSTudy,pmzilla,pmprepcast but i want to finalize 1 or 2 sources

I would see/try the free mock tests before finalizing to buy one, especially you do have cost constraint.


 


Please do one thing, go to www.pmpforsure.com and they offer 100 free questions. If you like then go further else there are many other options which successful people like SS can suggest.

Exam central has a lots of questions in their bank.

Oliverlahmann(50 and 175) are excellent

As you read the LL of other people from there you get more free sites.It did not spend extra money for questions.

I only invested on useful books like Andy crowe plus others.
