PMP Prep Guide

Hi All,

 

 I like to write a book for PMP Exam prep. I wonder if I nned to take permission from PMI to use PMBOK.

I have no plans to copy materials from that book, I like to use that book as one of my resources for my project.

Can some one suggest, if I need permissions, if so how to obtain?

If you are a PMI member then you can download and use the PMBoK for free. Dont use someone else's copy, unless someone has got hard copy and has given it to you

Hi James,


You do not need any permission from anyone to write any book. Across the globe, writing books is considered freedom of thoughts and it does not require any approval from anyone. Before you start writing the book, make sure you find out a publisher who is ready to publish it, getting publishing house is the biggest challenge.


PMI only gives its seal as REP to those institutes who imparts training on PMP and awards PDU. I am sure, you are not planning to award any PDU to your readers, if that is the case, you do not need any permission from PMI. REP is a seal for training (awarding PDU) and not books and Mock test.


You would refer PMBOK or other books for sure to write your book and hence your books would have almost 80% things similar (80/20 rule). Don’t worry, copyright comes into picture only when you “copy” the replica for “copyright material” and not when you refer and make your own sentences with rewords and changes.


I gave you all possible answer, please go ahead and publish your book, you don’t need any permission from anyone to express your thoughts. All the best!

 I think you need a permission from PMI if you refer to PMBOK or any other materials from PMI even once.

Yes, you are right, if you refer PMBOK that is a copyright material, you need approval. Thanks for this link. Let the book author jamesdansmith take a call if he is referring PMBOK in his publications.
