Passed PMP Exam - First Attempt

Hi All,

Thanks GOD, earlier today I passed my PMP exam in first attempt (4 MP and 1 P). Some points which I want to share with rest of the members are:

PMP is not a mission impossible. It is a moderate exam, neither too tough nor too easy.

You do not need to be a genius to pass it. A little hard work is enough.

I am thankful to pmzilla administration for running this wonderful site. My special thanks to Mr. Sspawar as I always follow his posts and believe me in today's exam, I got many questions whose concepts were explained in detail by him in the forums. Sir, you are doing excellent job. Keep it up.

Numerical questions were around 15 and very easy. Please do not miss numerical. Also, 4-5 questions were related to float and critical path. Simple and straight forward, no tricks.

A lot of questions came from inputs, outputs and tools and techniques, all in the form of scenarios. I didn’t remember T&T by heart. I just tried to develop concepts for them. However, in the exam I regret as 4 or 5 T&T questions were straight forward and I was unable to recall the correct answer. Rest 15-20 T&T questions, I was able to answer correctly. My recommendation is to memorize these as much as you can. It will definitely pay you back.

Examiner will try to confuse you between quality control and quality assurance. Do a lot of practice regarding these 2 topics as there were many questions related to quality.

Questions related to fast tracking and crashing were very simple. Same with estimating techniques.

Control charts, Pareto, Ishikawa and run diagrams also appear in a simple format. 5-6 questions came from control charts.

Questions related to Procurement contracts were just typical. Risk questions were a bit tricky, especially sometimes situation is so complicated that you need to be very accurate in differentiating between different types of risks.

There were many questions related to change management, scope management and configuration management and managing stakeholders expectations. Some were very tricky but mostly straight forward.

Now how did I prepare;

I read only one book which is PMBOK and read it only once. But I tried my best to understand its concepts clearly.

Rest of my preparation was done by doing free tests. These free tests are very much similar to actual exam, in fact a couple were 3 times harder than real exam and it helped me a lot. I did approximately 1500 free questions. Please make sure while doing free tests do not make any guess. At the end of test note down all your wrong answers plus un attempted questions. I prepared my notes based upon all the wrong answers which I gave in free tests. Then I explained the reasons why I made mistakes. My last hour revision was just to go through my lessons learned (notes which I prepared from my wrong answers) and it was very helpful.

My recommended top 4 sites are (all free, didn’t do even a single paid simulation exam):

Congratulation Muhammed. I agree that PMP can be pass with hard work and focus, its not like you need to have high IQ or have to be genius. Lot of questions in hindsight seem like common sense.
