Quality Vs Grade

Dear members,

I am not able to understand the Quality and grade concepts. Please explain.

Quality is all about client satisfaction i.e. acceptance. Grade is all about your purchasing power. Low grade is ok, but low quality is not acceptable across.

A product can be high Grade (high-end) or low Grade (low-end).  It is perfectly acceptable for a product to be a low Grade as long as it fulfills its stated requirements.

On the other hand, a low quality product is always a cause of problem. Every product must be of high quality regardless of its grade. A low Quality product is never desired.

Example:
* You go to market and survey fully automatic washing machine. The shopkeeper will shows you some local brands washing machine that offers the same features but with lower price. This is an example of low grade.
* You buy a costly branded cell phone and you see some important feature missing. This is an example of bad quality.

Let's say you develop a cell phone which has a 6 Mega Pixel video camera, MP3 Player and Web Browser supporting 10 different applications. We will say grading of this phone is very high. Now, when we buy it and start using it, we find out that video camera is not taking clear pictures, voice quality is very low and web browser gets frozen after every few minutes because of application error. Now, we will say that the quality of cell phone is very low.

On the other hand if you have a cell phone which only supports voice communication and no additional features are available in it, we will call it a low grade phone. However, when you use it you do not face any voice drop or other issue. So, it will be ranked as high quality phone with low grading.
