PMP eligibility

Hi all,

I want to know more about the eligibility criteria for PMP exam. I'm a 4-yr bachelor degree holder and my field of study was Information Systems Management. I'm sure all my PM experience during 4 yrs in uni can hit the minimum requirement of 4500 PM hrs. However my current job does not really relate to PM area.

So, I'm wondering if PM experience from academic projects can be counted towards the required 4500 hrs or only professional working hours are qualified to be counted.

I really want to get started with selfstudy for PMP prep and I first want to make sure I am actually eligible for that.

Academic projects are not counted.

Hi,

It all boils down to what you need your PMP certification for. A newbie in project maangeemnt can pass the PMP exam easily while a person with years of project management management experience may not be successful.

You can use several tools provided by any of the providers around for calculating your experience. I used the one given by PMstudy which helped me take my PMP exam.

Let me know if you need it or you can even get their customer service execs to give that to you and its free as well.

Self study is important, but at the same time, training by a reputable organization is a must.

Hi,

I do not think academic projects could be counted towards the experience required for PMP certification. However, you can use the tool provided for free by PMstudy in their website: http://www.pmstudy.com/PMI/PMI.asp 

I had taken the PMstudy bootcamp training and i did succeed in my 1st attempt!!

The course materials were excellent and i found them very focussed. The process charts were of great help and of course, the instructor was awesome!

There are many providers in the market, you can do a research on your own and narrow down your choice so that you are confident of your decision.
