HR question

Can sombody the answer

While creating the agenda for a status meeting with the team, a project manager receives input from one team member that an item should be added. Another team member says the team is not ready to resolve the item during the meeting. After much discussion, the project manager decides to put the item on the agenda as an initial discussion item only. Which conflict resolution technique is the project manager using?

Compromising

withdrawl

forcing

smothing

My answer is smooting. but right answer is compromising

This cannot be smoothing because the PM is not emphasizing on any areas of agreement. What the PM is doing here is trying to satisy both the team members. Both the team members lose something as a result of this solution.

1st Team member wanted the item to be in the main agenda. But what he got was, inclusion of the item only in the inital discussion.

2nd team member didnt want that item to appear anywhere in the agenda, but it was included for inital discussion.

So both the team members had to compromise on certain things and they lost something out of this. Hence it should be compromising.

withdrawal

Sunita,

It is not withdrawal. The PM is actually adding this item in the agenda for inital discussion. So he is acting on the issue and not withdrawing.

yeah...u r right

Whenever any arrangement gives some degree of satisfaction then it's compromising. This time some satisfaction to first member as its been added and some to second as its not resolved. Hope it helps.

Thanks . Got it
