You have been the Project Manager on a new project for a foreign company, and the engagement has been successful. In the foreign country, it is customary to show their appreciation by presenting a gift, so the company wants to award the Project Manager a new Rolex watch. It will be presented to you at the next meeting. What is the professional and social responsibility for the Project Manager?

(A) To accept the watch and not offend the company

(B) To decline the watch because it is against your company policies

(C) To decline the watch and give it to the president of your company

(D) To accept the watch and donate it to your favorite charity

 

It is the policy of the foreign company to present gifts, but the PM is coming from a company where accepting gifts is against company policy. Which policy should he adhere to in this case?

Be a roman when your in Rome..so it is in foreign land you need to understand their culture and adapt the culture while we are there..I think it should be A

Ans: B. The PM should politely explain to the client company that his/her company does not permit receiving gifts. PM should adhere to his/her company policy.

it is q of cultural diversity

you cant go agaist their customs

 Customary gifts cannot be as expensive as Rolex watch. They are something which show a token of appreciation, or token of rememberance.

So the best thing to do is decline.

Professional and social responsibility dictates that a PMP is not to be put into a position where there may be a conflict of interest. All other answers describe actions that conflict with the company's policies on accepting gifts.
