difference between BAC and PMB

Dear all ,

Kindly clear my doubt.

I had a mock exam question.

A railroad construction project is under execution. The project manager is using Earned value Technique  to measure the project performance. The  total planned value of the project is known as:

A. Performance measurement baseline

B.Earned Value

C. Budget at completion

D. Estimate at Completion.

my answer was A but the key gave choice C Budget at completion.

also gave the reference PMBOK page no : 182. first para  last sentence

"Planned value. Planned value (PV) is the authorized budget assigned to the work to be accomplished

for an activity or work breakdown structure component. It includes the detailed authorized work,
plus the budget for such authorized work, allocated by phase over the life of the project. The total
of the PV is sometimes referred to as the performance measurement baseline (PMB). The total
planned value for the project is also known as Budget At Completion (BAC)."

when I read this paragraph. I  got really confused.  I cant  differentiate between the last Two Paragraphs.

The total of the PV is sometimes referred to as the performance measurement baseline (PMB).

The total planned value for the project is also known as Budget At Completion (BAC)."

What is the exact difference between the PMB and BAC?

It cleared stated that 'The total planned value for the project is also known as Budget At Completion (BAC)'

and the question asked what is the other term for 'The total planned value'. it is BAC.

Please read the line 'The total planned value for the project is also known as Budget At Completion (BAC)' ' again.

Thanks

Jai

 Dear Jai

The question asked " The  total planned value of the project is known as:

It didnt ask "other term".

The answer C is correct. But I dont understand what is the difference between PMB and BAC.

 Dear Jai

The answer C is correct. But I dont understand what is the difference between PMB and BAC.

It should be a good  question.

PMB - is nothing but integrated 3 baselines. - COST/SCHEDULE/SCOPE

Now Baseline - is a time - phased  planned value.

At any point of time, PV can be seen at baseline only.

BAC can be seen at baseline end point, as total planned value.
