Number of Communication Channels ?

What do you think about this one, Does the initial 10 Stakeholders include the PM or we should add PM and make it 11

Q You are in charge of a project that deals with laying out a lavish 18 hole golf course.The project work is in progress.You also have a number of contractors working on the project.Being an experienced manager you know that communication is key to success of the project.You have identified that you have 10 stakeholders with whom you need to communicate.Due to some internal and external organizational changes at the client end three new stakeholders have been added with whom you need to communicate with.You also had to reduce one of the contractors with whom you were communicating.How many communication channels do you have now?

PM is not included in the initial 10, because the question says, "you have 10 stakeholders with whom you need to communicate." Thus, it has to be 10 aside from you (the PM).  Also, 3 new people are added and 1 is dropped.

So total # of people = 10 + 1 + 3 -1 = 13

So # of channels + 13*12/2 =  78

What's the offical answer, pls tell?

According to CertChamp PM is already included. Though I am not sure why ?

you are right in your interpretation.


The wording is amply clear and no ambiguity arises in determining the total number of stakeholders.


The answer is 78

10+3-1=12

n(n-1)/2 12(12-1)/2

12(11)/2= 132/2=66

ANS= 1

Can you explain why You did not include the PM and how can you say PM is already included.

 "10 with whom you need to commiunicate" => 11 stakeholders in total
Add 3, drop 1:
11+3-1 =>13 stakeholders in total

#number of channels: 13*12/2 = 78

Let's put it this way. Suppose 78 is not a choice. Should we consider 10 stakeholders in total in that case including the PM.

It depends on how it's phrased: in case of frases of X stakeholders with whom you discuss, the total number of SH's is X+1; in case it is stated simple that the total number of stakeholders is X, then you should already count the PM as included.
