Confused with Scope statement and scope baseline
Hi All,
Well, I am trying my best not to mug up the ITTO's and I making an attempt to understand them.
But I just cant seem to find a pattern or a logic when it comes to Scope statement and scope baseline.
See, here is what is troubling,
Scope Statement (outcome of Define scope) is an input for Create WBS, Sequence Activities, Estimate Activity durations and Develop schedule.
Whereas, scope baseline (output of Create WBS) is an input for Develop Proj Management Plan, Define Activities, Estimate costs, Determine budget, Identify Risk and Preform qualitative risk analysis.
How do I know when to use scope baseline and scope statement? (without cramming of course)
Thanks in advance.
Best regards
Bhatta

There is no perfect mapping
There is no perfect mapping but here is the understanding that I applied for myself
Scope statement - It contains project deliverables, out of scope items, constraints, acceptance criteria - and if you think where would need them, you will able to see connecting dots from these sections to the sequence activities, activity durations, etc as these processes require the complete knowledge of sections of scope statement mentioned above
Scope Baseline - baseline is collection of scope statement, WBS and WBS dictionary - i.e. once you define your component/packages and their details which are present in dictionay and scope statement, you need these details for estimate costs (costs are calculated using compnent/package level) or to define activities you would need scope statement which has constraints, assumptions
If you try to ask yourself that would scope statement be enough for estimate costs or define activities then you would answer no as you would need scope statement, WBS and WBS dictionary as well. The same method you can apply to other processes and you will be able to answer yourself which makes sense and which does not.....
Hope this helps

Scope baseline = scope
Scope baseline = scope statement + wbs + wbs dictionary. Once those 3 are approved, together they become the scope baseline
