3 quick questions
Hi,
Please advise on the reason for the following answers...
1) An Ishikawa diagram helps to:
a) Examine special causes of special outcome
b) Explore past outcomes
c) Assign Responsibilities
d) Control Responsibilities
Answer is B, but I was sure that the Ishikawa was a cause-and-effect diagram (A).
2) Alternative A's initial investment is $596,000. The PV of the expected cash inflows is $299,000 in year one and $301,000 in year 2. The cost of capital is 14%.
How can the NPV be positive for Alternative A in this case? Don't we need to factor the 14% in our equations to obtain NPV??
3) Which is the last activity to perform while closing a project:
a) Creating Lessons Learned
b) Releasing resources assigned to the team
c) validate scope
d) Close Procurements
Answer is D, but as a PM wouldn't you want to ensure that the Procurements are closed before releasing the project team?
Please help.
THANKS!

Answers for 1 n 3
1. For the first option
Ishikawa diagram, it is used to find the root cause. As per PMBOK Pg-236,
1) An Ishikawa diagram helps to:
a) Examine special causes of special outcome
b) Explore past outcomes
c) Assign Responsibilities
d) Control Responsibilities
Here on filtering the options for correct answer we are left with A and B
If we select option A then it says as we are examining spl cause of spl outcome which is not 100% correct the reason being in order to reach to this stage we first need to perform the Ishikawa diagram on a valid data i.e the data whcih is collect from past few months, with out which we cannot go ahead to find the cause. So the best answer in this case is "B"
3. For this, refer to PMBOK- Pg-459---
The following are the options which need to be performed while clsoing:-
a. Obtain formal acceptance by the customer or sponsor to formally close the project or phase
b. Conduct post project or phase end review
c. Record impacts of tailoring to any process
d. Document LL.
e.Apply appropriate updated to Org. process assets
f. Archive all the relevant project document in the PMIS to be used as historical data
g. Close out all procurements activites ensuring termination of all relevant agreements
h. Perform team members assessment ans release project
As per to the above and the options availabel in the question the best option is to select "D".
One sincere suggesstion to you friend please read Glossary with out fail, this covers entire imp. concepts of pmbok.
All the very best , waiting to see your blog on PMZILLA as "Cleared PMP with Flying colors"

Hi Vishwanath, As per the
Hi Vishwanath,
As per the PMBoK reference, the answer should be 'B', which is the same as the last item ('h') in PMBoK list of actions that you have shown.
Why do you feel the answer should be 'D'?
Regards.

1) should be A. If a process
1) should be A. If a process on your control charts is out of the specifications limits then you should investigate the special causes and a tool to find the special causes is the Ishikawa diagram. Other answers doesn't really say much. Don't understand why explore past outcomes, you can't explore everything on your control charts if your process is in control, that would be a waste of time and money.
3) Last activity is to release resources should be letter B. Before closing the project you should close all the pending procurements.

The only thing that comes to
The only thing that comes to my mind in this case is the formula:
NPV = (inflows - outflows)
NPV = (299,000 + 301,000) - 596,000
but not sure about the 14%. Not usually a common formula for the exam. The exam will use more this formula to make you find the present value or future value:
PV = FV / (1+r) ^ n
