Rita question

Need clarification on something Rita says the project budget, risk assessment, and project mgt plan comes after the detailed schedule is created. I don't think I agree with this, thought the project management plan comes before the schedule is created? Comments pls.

Please focus on the underlined sentence below, you will get answer to your questions

"Project management plan defines how the project is executed, monitored, controlled and closed. The size and complexity of the project determines the level of detail for the plan. The plan should generally cover the following subsidiary plans: scope management plan, schedulemanagement plan, cost management plan, quality management plan, process improvement plan, staffing management plan and/or human resource plan , communications management plan, risk managementplan and procurement management plan.

It should also include the phase or project milestone lists, resource calendars, schedule baseline, cost baseline, quality baseline and risk register.

 The project management plan and the subsidiary plans must be updated throughout the project life cycle."

Ok am a bit confused here am aware the project mgt plan consist of the cost and schedule baseline, infact the scope baseline is included in the project mgt plan, soo how come the schedule is created after project the project mgt plan is created? Thought you have to create the schedule mgt plan which is part of the project mgt. plan to have your schedule and from the sequence it comes after you have developed the project mgt. plan not schedule first then develop project mgt. plan after. Pls am still confused.

My freind, hope the below points help to clarify

1) Develop Schedule is a Planning activity.

2) Project Management Plan is a mix of all the other plans and is progressively elaborative.

3) Lastly since all baselines are part of the project management plan, how can the plan be complete without the Schedule Baseline?

So the answer to your query is that the project management plan will only be considered complete with  all its components inclusive of Schedule Baseline.

I believe that Project Management Plan will be alive throughout the project lifecycle until the project is closed and all the resources are released and all project related documents are archived as OPA. Until then, there is no one best sequence for updating the Project management Plan / until then, project management plan will be subjected to change from any nooks and corner of the project without any pattern
