Here is a question I found on the net in a book http://assets.booklocker.com/pdfs/5866s.pdf
Please let me know what you think what is the correct answer. I thought that ES = EF - Duration.
An activity in a network diagram has Duration of 5 days and Early Finish (EF) of 11 days. What is activity's Early Start (ES)?
(a) 7 days
(b) 4 days
(c) 8 days
(d) 3 days

Answer is A
Answer is A
5 work day is necessary.
If the EF is 11th of a month, base on the information, the ES will be 7th day
ES = EF - Duration - 1, assume the Start activity is from day 1 not day 0.

Hi cssk,
Hi cssk,
Think this way
ES = 5
EF = 11
So activity is executed on days 5,6,7,8,9,10,11
Just count it,you'll get the duration.

Answer
PMP Is right the answer is A. Forward Pass is ES+Duration-1. So with EF of 11, use algebra logic. So for this question its ES - Duration +1, so:
11 +1 = 12 - 5 (Duration) = 7

The other folks have commented correctly as there are several ways to determine duration and no single definitively correct one. If you find this topic confusing, consider a PMP prep class. I teach for www.PMstudy.com and we definitely cover this information. If you are interested you can contact me at sandra.s@PMstudy.com
