Passed PMP July 5, 2014

Been a silent reader and admirer of PMzilla forum for some time now. Great job you guys for creating this #SharingIsCaring PMP platform. It's time to give back to the community through my exam experience. My study approach is different and this post is not to brag about it but to help others who share similar style or would like to try it. Here ya go -

Study plan -

Started 2 weeks back took 3 days off in between. Read PMBOK once in b/w thorough & skim mode (highlighted text for revision) but never moved ahead without understanding the concept. Cannot stress how important this is - most questions on exam are situational/concept driven so cramming won't do you any good. Did not have time to prepare notes so browsed online to find notes which matched my style. There is excellent free PMP stuff available (PMzilla leading the way) but remember fella's end of day there is only so much you need. Don't waste your time going through "everything". You need to understand the concept in your own simple language and move ahead.

Practice exam - (attempted around 1000 questions)

Rita end of chapter 400 questions (70 to 75%)
PMStudy free exam (78%) Closest to actual exam
Central exam - 70% ( too easy became overconfident and made silly mistakes)
OL - 70%
PMP for sure - 70% ( Did not like this exam, the language is too bad and throws you off track)

Key message: make sure to go through all explanations and validate them against your rationale.

Exam day -

Did a quick brain dump during tutorial. Completed 60 questions in first hour, which made me feel good. Completed exam in 3.30 and reviewed all marked questions for next 30 minutes. It is important to keep moving ahead with your best selection. Remember there are 25 mock questions in the mix. You don't want to spend 5 minutes on a question that would never be marked. Therefore, it's important to spread your time equally. Easier said than done but it is one of the simple key to success.

Exam ended with a Congratulations message on screen & following scores -
Plan, M&C - Proficient
Initiate,Execute, Close - Moderately Proficient

I would be happy to answer any specific questions and wish all the aspirants good luck with their PMP pursuit.

Cheers!

Congratulations! Did you attend any PMP boot camp?

Thanks Tawnie, no I did not attend any boot camp - just 2 weeks of self study.

That is really impressive! Congrats again! Thanks for responding to my question.

So you studied within 2 weeks and passed the exam ?

That's true my friend.
