Root cause analysis

In control & monitoring phase, when the defect is found, does pareto diagrams effective to detect root cause issue? In multiple question, it was hard to determine the choice between pareto diagram and ishikawa diagram.

ishikawa is the correct answer 'to find out' root cause of a defect
where as
pareto chart is presentation of causes and corresponding defects on a quantitive scale
