Question on Schedule

5. You are managing a project that is in process. A large and unexpected problem occurs that will cause a delay in the schedule in excess of the contingency schedule for the project. What should you do?

a. Look at other tasks in the schedule and see which ones should be reduced to allow time for this problem to be worked
b. Reduce testing on the completed tasks
c. Require mandatory overtime for the project team
d. Speak to the stakeholders about getting additional time and budget for the project

Help me please.

I think option D is the best answer here.

Well I am thinking the same but the answer is mentioned as A. I am not understanding why?

In my understanding, is A option is correct then I think it implies that PM is trying to sue schedule compression technique in order to fit the task that is taking more time. But there is no such info given here.

what is the explanation given for the answer and what's the source of this question?

@farhanmazhari : Disregard my previous comments. After giving some thought to this question... I came up with below responses

a. Look at other tasks in the schedule and see which ones should be reduced to allow time for this problem to be worked - This the reasonable step to do as you need to check where you can do schedule compression to save some time to address the task that is taking more time. This is done in M&C to control schedule

b. Reduce testing on the completed tasks - Not advisable as this may impact the project deliverable quality

c. Require mandatory overtime for the project team - this is unethical

d. Speak to the stakeholders about getting additional time and budget for the project - Before taking this step you still do your analysis as mentioned in option a. If this is not feasible then you may use your management reserve to hire additional resources to complete the task on time rather being late.

So based on the above explanation, I will go option a. Hope this helps.

@coolpmp69 The question says, "it will impact the schedule" so I understand that PM did all the analysis......

I got this question from some forum and no explaination written.

Anyways thanks for the explaination.
