PMO and Program Management

hi i am trying to understand these concepts for the PMI exam;

1) do all companies have PMOs

2) do all projects go through PMOs

3) How is the PMO different from Program management in getting resources, ensuring project methodologies are being used?

Reason i ask this is because i am doing Rita RMC and most answers are PMO although there is no mention of that in the question. Thanks.

1. no all companies dont have PMO. PMO is required for central project tracking / execution and the role of PMO can vary from organization to org.

2. Again no. Not all

3. PMO can do program management. The responsibilities of PMO needs to be defined and as I said it can vary from organization to org. What is described in Rita's book is all the things that PMO can do , but generally PMO can be given some responsibilities also. Like in one of the projects PMO will look at staffing and admin work only.

Refer to PMBoK and carry that image of PMO to your exam.
