Hi ALl,
I always get my answers wrong for the conflict management techniques:-forcing, compromising, problem solving, smoothing etc.Is there a good place where I can get this concepts cleared and solve my question based on this.

Hi,
Hi,
The tip is to practice more questions and more importantly the answer would depend on the scenario described.
However I can share some points from my notes which may help.
Forcing
--------
This is easy. The PM is often enforcing his decision.Nobody gets to say anything. Its the least preferred and could seriously affect relationships. However in case of an emergency situation,it is the best option. Also for a problem which has been going on for a long time, its the only viable option.
Collaborating
--------------
Most preferred always. The most important to remember here is that the differences in opinion are openly discussed and never concealed. This helps in reaching CONSENSUS and the problem never resurfaces.
Compromising
-------------
This is the 2nd preferred method. Here the PM understands that forcing or collaborating is not gonna work so he proposes solutions which are agreeable to both parties. This is best suited for temporary or partial resolving of conflict.
Withdrawal
-----------
This method may be sometimes the worst because here the problem is never solved. The PM retreats from the actual issue or he postpones it to a later time.Mostly done for trivial issues.
Smoothing
----------
This method downplays the actual issue and also only solves the issue temporarily. Here what the PM does is to EMPHASIZE AREAS OF AGREEMENT than difference. The areas where differences are presented as they seem less important. This is only a surface level treatment of the issue and it may resurface at any time.
These points shouldn't be generalised as I said earlier and practise more quality questions.
Hope this helps

Don't worry, if you did
Don't worry, if you did amount of mock exam, you will think this is easy.
forcing, compromising, confront, smoothing, avoid/withdrawal
The most confuse must be smoothing only (lose-lose).
The only one thing you may keep in mind is the worst method can be forcing OR avoid/withdrawal.
